I’m Caelyn, a journalist currently working as a breaking news reporter at The Mercury News and East Bay Times based in San Jose, Calif., where I cover crime, courts and a range of local news stories.
In May 2025, I was awarded the California News Publishers Association first place award in the enterprise category for a story about the current state of child marriage in California after a bill that would end the practice failed at the statehouse.
Previously, I worked as an intern reporter at Bloomberg News in Los Angeles, where I spent summer 2023 reporting on the personal and economic impacts of the twin Hollywood strikes, covering Los Angeles news of national importance, and anchoring news videos. I worked as a news intern at Nexstar Media’s KRON4 news station in San Francisco during the summer of 2022.
I graduated from Brown University in May 2023 with Honors in English on the Nonfiction Writing track, where I was managing editor of the independent student newspaper The Brown Daily Herald.
